Dear Parents: We are coming into autumn with all kinds of exciting things in store. The classes are really beginning to get into the routine of things. Each class amazes me at the things they are learning and remembering. It is incredible to see their minds at work.

Classwork

Classwork

This month we will be finishing up the vowels with o, and u and vowel review. We will begin with consonants. You can ask them about their mystery letter of the week! In Bible we will be discussing Noah, Abraham, and Isaac for preschool. In pre-k we are learning about the ministry of Jesus. Bible time is a great time for the kids to relax and listen to a story and yet respond to it as well.

Themes & Songs

Themes & Songs

As I have said before, we will have monthly themes that we will explore using math and science concepts, as well as art. Our theme this month is the four seasons with an emphasis on fall. Also, we will talk about fire safety at the beginning of the month during fire safety week. We are learning songs about the days of the week and short vowel sounds. And we will learn a new song about the seasons this month. Ask your child about them. Maybe they will sing them for you. Singing is a fun way to expand vocabulary and aid in memory!

Discipline Policy

Discipline Policy

I wanted to keep the discipline policy as simple as possible so that the children can understand and work with it.  We do many things to reinforce positive behavior. However, we do want the children to know there are natural consequences for choices they make.  As you know, they put up an apple on the apple tree when they arrive at school. They also have green worms (clothespins) with their names on it.  First, they are given a verbal warning and the preschool will put a “reminder” worm at the bottom of the tree. Then, if they repeat the behavior they will place their worm on the middle of the tree and they will lose a few minutes of recess, pre-k will start with this.  After two chances, they will then have to move their worm to their apple and they will not receive candy at the end of class that day. This gives them three chances. However, the worm can be moved back off the apple for extra-good behavior, as well, before the closing activities for the day.  Each day they start fresh.

Reminders

* We will NOT have school Monday, October 14th.

* We will also be having dress-up parties on October 30th.

* Since we are affiliated with the church, we will NOT be celebrating Halloween. I do, however, think it is important to dress up, pretend, and use your imagination. If you do not already have a dress up box or things at home, it is a good time of year to find these things. Please keep the costumes friendly and non-scary, thank you.

* The children may wear their costumes to school on the 30th.

Thanks in advance. As always, if you have any questions or comments don’t hesitate to let me know. Thank you for letting us invest in your child!

God Bless,
